The implementation of the Jean Monnet Module has successfully contributed to curriculum development at SWU, aligning specialties in Law, Finance, National security, and International Relations, all in the fields of European Studies, Law, Economics, Political Science, International Relations with modern educational methods and labor market needs. The newly introduced Data Protection course has expanded SWU’s curriculum with a subject not widely taught nationally, increasing its attractiveness to students interested in this critical area. As a result, the university has strengthened its research capacity, enhanced its international recognition, and positioned itself as a leader in data protection education in Bulgaria.
Students benefited from the module by acquiring new skills that enhance their employability at both national and European levels. They engaged in practical assignments, such as designing privacy policies, and received instruction from expert guest lecturers. The course materials were delivered innovatively, ensuring high-quality education. Feedback indicated that students appreciated the practical approach and the integration of real-world applications. Based on this, further enhancements will focus on interactive case studies and digital resources to maintain engagement and relevance.
PhD students gained expertise in data protection and developed essential teaching skills, contributing to their professional growth. The prepared course materials serve as long-term resources for teaching and research, increasing their capacity in EU legal studies. Faculty members involved in the project benefited from academic exchanges and research collaborations, enhancing their scholarly output and reinforcing SWU’s academic excellence.
The project facilitated collaboration between academia, students, public authorities, private sector actors, and NGOs, fostering knowledge exchange on data protection. The roundtable discussion provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue and share best practices. The success of this initiative suggests that similar events should be organized annually to ensure continuous engagement and knowledge dissemination. The module has also contributed to broader discussions on EU and international data protection regulations, further strengthening SWU’s role in this domain. The Jean Monnet Module has met its intended impact by enhancing academic offerings, increasing student employability, and fostering international collaborations. Moving forward, SWU will continue to develop interactive teaching strategies and expand its engagement with external stakeholders to maintain the module’s relevance and ensure its sustainability. Further research publications and international conference participation will reinforce SWU’s leadership in data protection education and research.
